G POWER BMW M3 CSL @ 550hp
With the BMW M3 CSL, northern German refiners G-POWER present a further exemplar for BMW series vehicles equipped with V10 motors. First time vehicle presentation was held June 2007 at the Salzburg-Ring in Austria during the M Drivers Club meeting; official partners of G-POWER. The modulation of the larger V10 aggregate to the significantly smaller M3 CSL engine compartment is mastered by G-POWER with flying colours. Directly consequential to the V10 series aggregate from the M5 is a substantial increase in performance alone, yet G-POWER would not be G-POWER if there wasn’t more to be had. Pertaining to engine tuning, G-POWER’s customers benefit from 26 years of collected experience. Balancing this experience, the V10 elicits 550 hp and catapults to an acceleration of guaranteed 580Nm. In contrast to the original six-cylinder in-line engine with 360 hp and 370 Nm, the results are really quite impressive. The remaining facts are no less spectacular. Despite a somewhat higher vehicle total weight of 1550kg, G-POWER with it’s “heart tranplant” sank the power to weight ratio from a good 3,9 kg/hp to a superior 2,7 kg/hp. Instead of 4,8 seconds from 0-100 km/h, G-POWER CSL V10 reached this mark in a breath-taking 4,2 seconds. Even more important in reference to super sports cars, is the speed acceleration to 200 km/h. With 11,6 seconds, the G-POWER CSL V10 leaves all others with scarcely a chance. Often the top speed of this bolide surpasses even those more powerful engines from Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen or Maranello, Italy: 335 km/h is a quantum leap versus the 285 of the original M3 CSL!
This V10 “operation” from G-POWER is available for the complete palette of the BMW models. Whether the current 3-series coupé, Z4, X5 or new M3, G-POWER rises and meets each challenge. Additionally, G-POWER is already working on a bi-compressor kit for the V10 engine and shall be setting further milestones in the higher divisions of the distinguished BMW refinement segment. The targeted performance of the first level lays by approximately 640 hp and for those especially power hungry, further levels can liberate up to a possible 750 hp .
Clearly, for more security even further alterations on the CSL technology are necessary. Based on brute performance, G-POWER took on the suspension as well. Working closely with suspension manufacturer KW automotive, which is very succsessful in racing at Nuerburgring-Nordschleife, the northern Germans compiled an extensivey tested suspension system. It is perfecty adjusted to the car´s power and is suitable for race track and road use as well.
G-POWER equips the otherwise externally unaltered M3 CSL with its newest wheels. G-POWER’s affinity to racing sports is clear to anyone by name alone: SILVERSTONE.
The new G-POWER SILVERSTONE DIAMOND wheel is provided a “concave” rim contour design specially developed for the latest BMW vehicle generation but suis older models such as the M3 E46 CSL perfectly as well. With this new, for G-POWER protected design, a pure BMW wheel was generated exclusively adjusted to the BMW brake outlines. Through this optimized spatial relationship, G-POWER improves additional brake ventilation. Opel Corsa OPC Sets Nordschleife Record
The Nürburgring Nordschleife, nicknamed the "Green Hell", met its match in the shape of a standard production Corsa OPC. After 20.8 challenging kilometers, the stopwatch showed eight minutes, 8m47.99 seconds – a new record for a supermini. Manuel Reuter set the officially confirmed circuit record during level four of Opel's popular motorsport initiative called "OPC Race Camp". The former Opel works driver and current head of the innovative racing driver talent search showed the candidates just what the 141 kW/192 hp top-of-the-line Corsa OPC is capable of. Reuter has already set class records on the legendary Nordschleife with the Astra OPC and Zafira OPC.
Manuel Reuter, who is involved with the chassis tuning and post launch modifications to OPC variants, said: "You can sense that this car had its final tuning here on the most demanding racing circuit in the world. The Corsa OPC reacts directly to driving commands and remains fully predictable even well into the car's physical limits." The Nürburgring, and in particular the famous Nordschleife circuit, is Opel territory, as development engineers from Rüsselsheim regularly test and optimize the driving dynamics of new models there.
The Corsa OPC, which has been on sale since March and already exceeded the planned annual sales target of 3000 units, also offers top class everyday driving fun away from the racing circuit. The sporty top version of the fourth-generation Corsa has a 1.6-liter turbo engine, which accelerates the car from zero to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds. The Corsa OPC has a top speed of 225 km/h, and its maximum torque of 230 Nm can be temporarily increased by 15 percent via the Overboost function. The Corsa OPC's only conservative trait is its fuel consumption – just 7.9 liters per 100 km.
Lancer EVO X Brochure Leaked
While we’re waiting to see if Mitsubishi will unveil the new 2008 Lancer EVO X at the Frankfurt Show next month or at the Tokyo Show in October, an official brochure of the Japanese-spec version has been leaked into the web revealing several details on the car. Most importantly, we learn that the Lancer EVO X’s new lightweight 2.0-liter turbocharged MIVEC*4 engine delivers 206 kw which translates to 280 PS or, 276 HP @ 6.500 rpm and a maximum torque figure of 422 Nm (311 lb.ft or 43.0 kgm) @ 3.500 rpm.
Comparatively, the 4G63 2L DOHC intercooled 2.0L turbo engine used in the outgoing Lancer EVO IX had the same output of 206 kW (280 PS) at 6,500 rpm, but a lower maximum torque figure of 400 Nm (295 lb.ft or 40.8 kgm) at 3,000 rpm for the 6-speed M/T GSR, and 407 Nm (300 lb.ft or 41.5 kg-m) at 3,000 rpm for the 5-speed M/T RS. Of course, since these figures concern the JDM version, we’ll have to wait to see what Mitsubishi has in mind for the European and US versions spec versions.
Albeit it’s virtually impossible to translate the 27 page long brochure,Lancer EVO X will be available in Japan in two versions, the GSR and the RS. The GSR will be offered either with Mitsubishi’s new 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox or with a 5-speed manual. The RS will be available solely with the 5-speed manual gearbox.
Kahn Aston Martin DB9S
New from Project Kahn: The DB9S styling package for the DB9. The DB9S styling package provides a contemporary look that stays true to the original Aston Martin DBS style. Now the leading design house in the UK Project Kahn’s team of dedicated designers recognise the importance of staying true to the original design themes of bespoke vehicles while providing a new and dynamic appearance that follows on the original contours of the car.
The DB9S styling package comprises of two front and two rear valance pieces, side skirts and rear boot lip spoiler. The addition of the front valance sections provides the aggressive front bumper and the moulded side skirts provide a ‘low to the road’ look which beautifully sets off the curves and flows of the original bodywork. The styling package is finished off perfectly by a set of 20” Kahn RSV alloy wheels, which Aston Martin actually used on their DBS prototype.

Audi A5 TDI Engine
Two more leading edge Audi FSI and TDI engines join the all new A5 coupé range this week with additional refinements that boost output while at the same time maximising efficiency.
The 3.2-litre V6 FSI petrol is a development of the much praised unit powering A4, A6 and A8 models, its power increased in the A5 from 256PS to 265PS and its 330Nm torque peak delivered lower down the range at 3,000rpm, and across a wider band stretching to 5,000rpm. The A5 3.2 FSI takes a minimum of 6.6 seconds to reach 62mph from rest, can reach an electronically limited maximum speed of 155mph and yet is also capable of returning up to 31.7mpg.
The new 2.7-litre TDI with advanced common rail piezo injection and standard diesel particulate filter (DPF) enjoys a power hike from 180PS in the A4 and A6 to 190PS, and a 20Nm torque boost to 400Nm at 1,400rpm. It enables the A5 2.7 TDI to accelerate to 62mph in 7.6 seconds, to carry on to a top speed of 144mph and to cover up to 42.2mpg.
Both new versions are initially available exclusively with unique-in-class multitronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), and in conjunction with front-wheel-drive.
The most important new development to benefit the engines in their transition to the A5 can be found in the 3.2 FSI. In its latest application this advanced unit combines the many advantages of FSI direct petrol injection with a sophisticated new Audi valvelift system first seen in the new 2.8-litre FSI unit powering the A6 and the recently introduced A8 2.8 FSI – the luxury saloon with the lowest CO2 emissions yet.
Audi valvelift controls valve opening far more precisely than conventional systems, boosting fuel economy by a remarkable 10 per cent. Valve lift is variable between two levels through the use of sliding cam units mounted on the intake camshaft. When strong acceleration is required, an electronic control mechanism selects a cam profile which opens the valve as fully as possible for optimum ‘breathing’. When throttle usage is more relaxed, the control mechanism selects a lower profile, reducing the amount of fuel and air compressed.
In addition to the new engines the A5 range also includes an upgraded version of the 3.0-litre V6 TDI with 240PS and a 4.2-litre V8 FSI petrol engine with 354PS reserved for the flagship S5 quattro.
Nissan: Want Second Hand GT-R? Wait a Year!
Nissan’s upcoming GT-R super-coupe is one of the most hotly awaited cars of the decade so it’s no surprise there’s already an extensive waiting list for it. Unfortunately, in situations like this unscrupulous buyers who get their hands on the car early on often sell them to those fans willing to pay a small premium on the retail price to make a profit.
This is a practice Nissan would like to avoid with its new GT-R so it’s actually considering limiting the car’s warranty to the first owner for a period of one year. This means that if anyone buys the car second hand before the one year deadline, the car’s warranty will be voided. “That’s the route we’re looking at,” Nissan’s PR director Scott Vazin told Edmunds.
The new GT-R will be making its official debut at October’s Tokyo Motor Show before making its US debut at the LA Show. The car should go on sale early next year and is tipped to be priced around the $70,000 mark.
Aston Martin DBS
Aston Martin will unveil one of the most eagerly anticipated car of the year when the new DBS is revealed at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 16th, where the company takes a starring role as the featured marque.
Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ulrich Bez, said: “The DBS is the ultimate expression of Aston Martin’s engineering and technical ability. It offers pure performance without compromise.
“The DBS delivers the complete driving experience and bridges the gap between our road and track cars – the DB9 and DBR9.”
Equally at home on a twisting mountain circuit as on the open road, the DBS is a true thoroughbred. The Aston Martin DBS is a 6.0-liter V12 powered, race-bred, two-seater shaped by the aerodynamic demands of high performance, with an exquisite interior that marries beautifully hand-finished materials with the very latest in performance technology.
A combination of elegant design, innovative manufacturing processes, race-derived materials and components and Aston Martin’s unrivalled hand-build expertise makes the DBS a luxury sports car without equal. Every line, crease and curve conveys the enormous potential of the DBS, a seductive blend of refinement and raw power, provided by the hand-built V12 producing 510 bhp, a top speed of 191 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds.
Performance
The need for high-performance stability, handling ability and low kerb weight defined the DBS’s form and construction. Accordingly, the DBS becomes the first production Aston Martin to make extensive use of ultra-light carbon-fiber body panels. High levels of performance and control are delivered by the combination of inherent light weight, near-perfect weight distribution, a supremely powerful and flexible V12 engine, and a performance-honed six-speed transmission, together with new carbon ceramic brakes and an adaptive damper controlled suspension system.
At the heart of the DBS is a 6.0-liter V12 engine. As with all current Aston Martins, it is hand-assembled at Aston Martin’s dedicated engine facility in Cologne, Germany. The classic 6.0-liter V12 features a number of power-increasing enhancements. These include a ‘by-pass’ engine air intake port that opens above 5500 rpm to allow more air into the engine, and re-profiled air inlet ports that further improve airflow into the combustion chamber. Combined with a compression ratio of 10.9:1, the result of these enhancements is prodigious power and torque: the DBS delivers 510 bhp at 6500 rpm. The 3.71:1 final-drive ratio ensures that the additional power is usable, enhancing in-gear acceleration in particular.
Design
The DBS is manufactured using the finest materials, with a combination of hand-finishing and pioneering high-technology processes. From the exceptional quality of the design and finish to the advanced production techniques employed to save weight and create strength, the DBS is both a technological masterpiece and a powerful visual and tactile experience, inside and out.
The external detailing reflects the power and dynamic abilities of the DBS, with revised inlets and enlarged grilles that deliver more air into the engine and increase its cooling capacity. Subtle design details include a new five-bar design for the polished alloy main grille, as well as two additional vents in the enlarged power bulge on the carbon-fiber bonnet. These vents are entirely functional, improving engine performance and efficiency, yet also communicating the increased power output of the uprated V12 engine.
The DBS’s aerodynamic enhancements are shaped by Aston Martin’s racing experience. A carbon-fiber splitter and a new front bumper design help channel airflow around the car’s wider bodywork. The aerodynamics team worked hand in hand with the modeling team to ensure that the forms and surfaces of DBS were sculpted for inherent stability at high speeds.
Interior
The interior of the DBS represents the epitome of Aston Martin’s commitment to using materials honestly, without disguise or embellishment. Lightweight materials are used throughout to save weight; door pulls are made from carbon-fiber, for example, and the carpet has been woven with lighter fibers to save weight. Special semi-aniline leather is used throughout the cabin, saving weight as well as giving a soft feel and distinctive aroma.
As an option the DBS may be equipped with specially developed lightweight seats (outside North America). These feature a carbon-fiber and Kevlar composite structure and are manufactured by a supplier to the motorsport and aviation industries before being returned to Aston Martin’s Gaydon factory for hand-trimming. The structure is created by sandwiching a layer of Kevlar between two layers of carbon-fiber with the outer finish left exposed on the seat backs, lacquered to create a durable and attractive finish.
The start sequence of the DBS is augmented by an all-new centre console design with a cast metal surround, crisp typography and new graphics. The new console has a traditional dial-face clock at the centre, flanked by two rotary controls for the heating and air-conditioning system, fashioned from solid, turned aluminum.
Deliveries of the DBS are expected to commence during quarter one 2008, with prices to be confirmed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
ABT Audi S3
Purely dynamic is the fastest member of the A3 family. The performance data of the serial model already convinces. But when Abt Sportsline modifies the S3, it results in a premium sports car which is suited perfectly for the daily use but also shows distinctive racing genes.
After the power treatment by the famous specialist for vehicles of the Volkswagen group, the 2.0 TFSI engine in the Abt S3 achieves 310 hp (228 kW) and overpowers his colleague from Ingolstadt by 45 hp (33kW). The quick Abt is distinctively more dynamic: 420 Newton meters of torque (the series model has 350 Newton meters) are pushing the driver deeply into the seat. Ford FPV F6 R-Spec Typhoon
Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) has released its new limited edition F6 R-Spec Typhoon, featuring FPV's innovative R-Spec suspension and handling package. The F6 R-Spec is the first of FPV's six-cylinder models to feature the R-Spec suspension.
The stylish new addition to the FPV stable is identified with distinctive R-Spec badging, and "Dark Argent"gunmetal accents on the wheels and rear spoiler as standard. With production limited to just 300 units, the new F6 R-Spec will come with a unique build certificate of authenticity.
FPV General Manager Rod Barrett said that the positive response to the GT 40th Anniversary limited edition, which was the first FPV to feature the R-Spec handling package, led to FPV modifying R-Spec for its six-cylinder Typhoon.
"The initial idea behind R-Spec was to provide an FPV vehicle for those people who wanted to be more competitive at track days and club sprint events, but who didn't want to compromise on the comfort of daily driving either," said Barrett.
"The GT 40th Anniversary succeeded in fitting that brief, and now for the first time our customers can enjoy the same superior level of suspension and handling on our award-winning Typhoon model."
Barrett said FPV has customised the R-Spec package to maximise the handling characteristics of the Typhoon, allowing drivers of the limited edition F6 R-Spec to extract the best possible performance out of their vehicle.
"The set-up on the F6 is different to our Boss 290 package to account for the different mass of the Typhoon. The most significant change has been to the front end damper tune."
"Importantly, we have maintained an impressive level of ride comfort. The R-Spec package picks up more road irregularities, however, we have maintained the supple ride that has earned FPV cars an enviable ride and handling reputation."
The cabin of the F6 R-Spec includes FPVs leather seats as standard, while FPV floor mats with "F6 R-spec" logo inlay match the exterior touches.
An iPod/MP3 audio player connection^ is also fitted as standard and integrates with the FPV audio system.
The F6 R-Spec is available in Winter White, Lightning Strike, Vixen, Neo, Ego and Silhouette.
The FPV F6 R-Spec limited edition will be available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, with a recommended retail price starting from $63,310.
Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Enhanced
Automobili Lamborghini has announced its 2008 model year Gallardo and Murciélago LP640 models. The Lamborghini Murciélago will now come with a three-year warranty, in line with the three-year warranty already offered in the UK on Lamborghini Gallardo models. The unlimited mileage warranty will now be standard across all markets, reflecting the high level of manufacturing qualities found in Lamborghini cars.
The Gallardo MY08 now offers the following additional standard equipment: onboard computer, heated mirrors, and USB connection under the front bonnet in place of the CD loader as a no-cost option.
The list of Gallardo optional equipment has also been enhanced. A new soft-top colour – beige – will become available for the Gallardo Spyder, plus i-Pod preparation/connection can be provided in the glove compartment.
Within the interiors options range, the special Q-citura upholstery stitching has now become an option across the Gallardo range, following the success of this stitching in the seat centres, door panels and dashboard of the Murciélago LP640 and the Gallardo Nera limited edition.
For the Murciélago LP640, the MY08 is anticipated with i-Pod preparation or a USB interface as new options, with CD loader still available as standard equipment but also available with a satellite navigation system.
Other options offered include the steering wheel in perforated leather across all models, and two new choices of dark blue and grey colours for the soft-top of the Murciélago LP640 Roadster.
Other options for the LP640 include an additional set of winter tyres, and enhancement of the carbon kit with the carbon weave on the lower part of the steering wheel and on the gear levers (e-gear version).
Porsche Cayman S Edition 1
Porsche is to expand its mid-engine coupé model range with the launch, in November 2007, of the Cayman S “Porsche Design Edition 1”, a limited-edition special series. Porsche has incorporated various design disciplines into this very special mid-engine coupé: the black exterior emphasizes the purist nature of the 295-bhp sports car and, at the same time, is a nod to Porsche Design and the famous Chronograph 1s designed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche precisely 35 years previously.
This look, cultivated by Porsche Design, imparts additional luxury and class on the Cayman S: the black leather and Alcantara upholstery harmonizes with refined details such as the instrument dials, the layout of which reflects that of all Porsche Design chronographs. Even the center console, dashboard, and door trims glisten in black, while the three-spoke sports steering wheel, the gear lever, the handbrake grip, and the roof lining are clothed in non-slip black Alcantara. The Porsche logo (crest) is embossed on the headrests.
The vehicle’s technical features are equally sophisticated: beneath the ten-millimeter-lower body, standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) actively controls the hardness of the shock absorbers and it features a special Sport mode that can be activated at the touch of a button for a really dynamic driving feel. Porsche Boxter Orange Edition
Porsche’s all-new orange 2008 Limited Edition Boxster and Boxster S will soon be stirring excitement around the country with a stylish design and competitive pricing starting at $49,900 USD and $59,900 USD, respectively. With the first Limited Edition being displayed at a special sneak preview at the NY Auto this past spring where it received a rave reception, the 500 eagerly anticipated Orange Boxster and Boxster S models will go on sale in dealerships on September 28, 2007 throughout the U.S.
Clad in striking orange paint, a color previously featured only with the track ready Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the Limited Edition Boxster is as well-built as it is eye-catching and even includes a special “Limited Edition” plaque in the glove compartment. It touts a sport exhaust system and safety bars, designed to help protect occupants, are dressed in orange paint. And the SportDesign package that includes spoiler lips in the front, an automatically extending and redesigned rear spoiler, and modified rear trim with integrated diffuser provides a more stunning and sporty appearance.

Audi R8 Launches all-LED Headlights
Since 1992, red LEDs have been used increasingly for high-level brake lights, as well for tail lights and regular brake lights. Audi became the first manufacturer to feature peripheral white LEDs as daytime running lights, first on the Audi A8 W12 in 2004 and then on the Audi S6, Audi R8 and Audi A5/S5 from 2006.
Audi is now premiering the first and only headlight unit in the world to deploy LEDs for all of the front lighting functions. Apart from the daytime running lights, these functions comprise the turn signals and the dipped beam and main beam headlights. Various groups of LEDs, known as arrays, produce the correct light distribution and brightness. Each headlight unit has a total of 54 LED light sources.
The outstanding benefits of LED technology include its low energy consumption (50 watts for the dipped beam headlights, 6 watts for the daytime running lights), a colour that is similar to daylight for enhanced contrast and more pleasant visual perception, the non-wearing design, lower voltage requirements, compact dimensions and the increased freedom of design.
A special permit from the EU has paved the way for incorporating front-lighting LED technology into series production ahead of schedule. This is because the corresponding EU regulation is not expected to come into force before 2008. Audi is a founding member of the working party that was set up in 2003 to bring about speedy approval for advanced and powerful lighting technology.
Innovations in the field of lighting technology are often based on the development of new light sources. Halogen bulbs were followed by xenon headlights, which were subsequently expanded to include cornering and static turning lights. Thanks to the rapid advances being made in LED technology, it will soon be possible to reproduce the same functions with these semiconductor elements too.
Each light unit consists of a housing, a chip or chip array, a circuit board and a heat sink. Electric ventilators ensure effective heat dissipation and also defrost the headlight units.
The LED headlight that will in future be available as an option for the Audi R8 is made up of the following components: LED dipped beam headlights as the primary function. Here, basic light distribution is taken care of by LED arrays, each consisting of four chips, which shine out of free-form reflectors. A further three two-chip LED arrays for light in the region of the light-dark boundary and for the headlight range are located behind the lens. Directly adjacent to this is the main beam headlight comprising one four-chip LED array inside each of the two reflector shells. The 24 white LEDs for the daytime running lights are distinctively positioned along the bottom edge of the headlight unit, giving it a three-dimensional and sophisticated appearance.
The turn signal with its eight yellow high-brightness LEDs is placed on the top edge of the headlight unit pointing towards the single-frame grille, where it combines with the strip of LED daytime running lights to form a frame around the headlight.
LED technology in Audi concept studies:
As long ago as the start of 2003 that Audi first unveiled an operational, slat-shaped LED fog light in its Pikes Peak show car at the Detroit Motor Show. An initial concept for an all-LED headlight was presented in the Audi Nuvolari quattro at the Geneva Motor Show in that same year, and in September the Le Mans quattro turned up on the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show with LED headlights. The dipped beam light distribution already met the statutory requirements at this point. A fully functional LED headlight with lenses made from aluminium tools was featured on the allroad quattro concept car back in 2005. The Shooting Brake concept car then showcased an LED headlight with a bionic design, whose form resembled a pine cone. This same basic idea has now been transferred to the new series-production solution for the R8. The Audi Q7 V12 TDI (Detroit 2007) has already provided a preview of the next generation.
